On this entirely outdoor walking tour, you will see the homes of a movie star, an oil baron, a Kansas governor, and much more. The tour will focus on the architecture and the people who built and owned these homes from the 1890's to the 1930's.  The tour lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, and you will walk about eight blocks. This tour will begin on the Douglas Avenue sidewalk, in front of St James Episcopal Church at 3750 E. Douglas and end at Blessed Sacrament Church at Douglas and Quentin.

Out of respect for our neighbors, we kindly ask that you DO NOT take photographs of personal residences.  These are private homes and still being lived in and we must respect their privacy.

Tour moves at a leisurely pace with short periods of standing at designated tour stops.  Considerable walking, unpaved areas, uneven sidewalks, brick streets and cross traffic can be expected.

This guided tour will provide an extensive interpretation of the house details and the relationship between Wright and his architecture led by experienced Docents. You will be allowed more time in each room to experience the details of Wright’s architecture and also photograph details for personal use. This tour offers access to the garden house which is not included on other tours. The garden house contains a sampling of items designed by Wright during his lifetime. This is a walking tour, and you must be able to navigate stairs. Plan to spend 2-3 hours in the house/gardens. Interior still photography is allowed for personal use only. In order to receive a quality tour experience, we limit the number of visitors on this tour. (Not recommended for children under the age of 12.)

Have you ever wondered about the history behind the artwork inside the Allen House?  Come experience an in-depth look at examples of Elsie Allen’s art collection.  Elsie was a major art collector and advocate in Wichita.  She owned over 400 pieces of art at the time of her death.  This tour will explore original pieces of art that are exhibited in the home.  This tour focus is on the artwork but will also include a “mini-tour” of the home.  Tour length is approx. one hour.  This is a walking tour throughout the home and stairs must be navigated.
